Chatsworth Park Volunteer Session 4th June

Chatsworth Park Volunteers will be meeting 11-1 on Sunday 4th June where they will be litter picking, building log pile habitats, and sweeping & clearing paths. All volunteers receive a free drink from Wander Coffee. Bring brooms, shovels and gloves if you can.

There have already been four volunteer sessions in Chatsworth Park so far this year, with lots of new faces coming along to help and a record number of over 40 in the April session.

Work has been carried out on the Memory Garden, the ground on the East side of the park was prepared for a wildflower meadow, litter has been picked up, paths and steps swept, and log pile habitats created following recent tree works. A run-off channel was dug beside the path at the bottom of ‘Pigs Hill’ which we hope will prevent the path from flooding and a new ditch has been created to stop mud collecting.

The group also put up 8 bat boxes and 5 bee homes built by Meridian Primary Forest School students. We are also due to put in hedgehog homes.

The group has collected 38 bags of rubbish, part of a trampoline, an old ping pong table, an abandoned slide, three tyres, a shopping trolley and an office chair.

The pond in Chatsworth Park has been built by landscaper Steve Willmott and Cllr Ciarron Clarkson, and was paid for with donations from the House Project and Telscombe Residents’ Association. It features a well for over wintering frogs and toads, a pebble bird bath and two lookouts for dragonflies. The pond will be filled naturally by rain water and volunteers will return to plant it when it is full. The plastic boundary will be removed when the dead hedge is complete.

If you would like to get involved contact Telscombe Town Council on 01273 589777.
