Newhaven Green Centre CIC is launching Newhaven Library of Things (renamed from Sharing Library) on Tuesday 24th January 6.30-7.30pm at MENCAP Hall, where you can enjoy a drink and some light refreshments, view items in the Library of Things and become a member.
You can also bring unwanted Christmas presents and enjoy other people's unwanted gifts at our free 'Bring-and-take' Table. Please let them know if you would like to come so they have an idea of numbers on info@newhavengreencentre.com
The Newhaven Library of Things offers household items, small tools and the like for loan, just like books from a ‘normal’ library. It is free to join, and free to borrow items – though they are always happy to receive donations towards their running costs.
They've decided to rename the 'Sharing Library' as the 'Library of Things', as they feel it describes what they're doing better. And they're pleased to say that they've received funding from 'Making it Happen' at the Sussex Development Community Association to help stock the library. As the new year gets going you'll see more and more items available to borrow, from catering equipment to tents. Do get in touch if you have any ideas about useful things we could stock, or any (good quality) items you could donate.
They will also be increasing the number of times that you can borrow & return items. As well as the Thursday morning stalls at Newhaven Library and their Repair Cafés, they'll be running Library sessions at the Mencap Hall, West Quay Newhaven, BN9 9BP each Tuesday evening between 6.30-7.30. Their hope is that it will make them more accessible to people with traditional working hours.
To sign up for the library, you’ll have to create an account on their ‘MyTurn’ library page here.
You’ll need to visit them in person to complete the registration process – you’ll need a photo ID and proof of address. You’ll be able to do this at a Repair Café, on a Tuesday evening at the MENCAP Hall or at one of our Thursday morning stalls at Newhaven Library.
